MELITA

Here I am, back after the summer break ended with an unforgettable birthday party . My penultimate summer destination was Malta.
Melita is a rocky island in the Mediterranean Sea. British colony , so be careful when driving , it has a very youthful seen due to the many summer schools. The food is excellent for those who, like me, eat lots of fish , fresh vegetables and fruits although the recipes are very italianised (we are in front of Sicily ) and you can even eat the rabbit. The restaurants where I’ve been, are very elegant and refined , and we didn’t pay too much  compared to Italian ones.

I was struck about the architecture that marks the passage of the Arabs, Turks, French and the British in particular as regards the wooden balconies ( Egyptian ) and the wooden doors that are reminiscent of the houses of my grandparents in Kef . The tuff is the raw material for the construction of houses and churches  that harmoniously reflects the sunlight .
The Maltese people I met were polite and smiling and certainly do not send away the customer …
What to see: St Juliens , Valletta , Mdina (even at night is gorgeous) , Comino , Gozo and BAY: blue lagoon and Dwejra . Do not miss the fish market in Marsaxlokk on Sunday , it is worth waking up early . Make a trip to see the sites of breeding red tuna , the largest in the Mediterranean Sea, according to our guide . Unfortunately, I missed the tour at the Playmobile factory … I think that most of the parents go there with the excuse to take the children  😉
Of course, the churches / cathedrals and museums are worth seeing ( Fine Arts, Archeological museum , Natural History , Domus Romana , Punishment ) and the catacombs ( St Paul’s and Agatha’s catacombs ) .
What to buy? The various lace creations ( I bought a lacy umbrella just fabulous ! for princess only ), the Cross of Malta, the silver jewelry ( filigree ) and why not a postcard or some souvenirs 🙂
Malta is perhaps only to be seen once in a lifetime, being a small Island,  you do the same things . But at least do them well … for once in your life 😉

ps: have a look to this site, it’s well done: http://www.visitmalta.com. Flying with Air Malta wasn’t a bad idea.
